The jewellery on these pages is all made from pearls the traditional wedding jewel, ,symbolising purity of mind and body, they are believed to instil a sense of grace and balance into the wearer. It is tradition for the father of the bride or groom to present pearls to the bride on her wedding day to represent love, virtue, spirituality and prosperity. The association of pearls with weddings is though to date back several thousand years and originate in India. There is a beautiful legend of a father presenting his daughter with pearls he had collected from the sea. Whatever the origins, pearls are a wonderful complement to a wedding gown and make an elegant adornment for any bride.

The jewel traditionally referred to as a pearl is strictly speaking a cultured pearl. Nowadays the term is erroneously applied to all kinds of jewel, but glass or freshwater pearls are more properly called faux pearls. The true pearl is a created naturally in mussel shells. It is formed as a natural defence against an irritant (eg sand) as it enters the shell.
