Choosing the perfect tiara or wedding head-dress adds the final touch to the bridal outfit. The tiara or head-dress has a long and distinguished history going back as far as Ancient Egypt. Traditionally worn as a mark of royalty or nobility, the modern wedding tiara has come to symbolise hope, majesty, glamour, wealth and sophistication.

Tiaras in ancient Egypt and later in Roman times were worn to demonstrate power and nobility. The size and style of a tiara said a great deal about the social status of its wearer.

The tradition of the wedding tiara dates back to the early nineteenth century. Traditionally made with designs that incorporated flowers and jewels with a particular meaning, the tiara expressed a message of love. At the same time, tiaras experienced a resurgence and became items of fashion as well as rank. It had become the fashion to underline one’s wealth and rank through ostentatious displays of jewellery. Throughout Europe jewellers created beautiful tiaras to adorn the heads of the upper classes.

The first World War brought much of this ostentatious display to an end. During the 1920s tiaras became simpler and were sometimes replaced altogether by a simple bandeau. By the outbreak of World War II, tiaras disappeared in all but the most elite circles of society. Today, however, they are undergoing a massive resurgence and wedding tiaras have scarcely ever been more popular.
